Welcome to the new academic year! In this issue, we feature our students who are enriching their college experience by “going out of the classroom and into the world”: theater tech with the pros; NASA competition; political internship in Washington, D.C.; cross-national research in Poland and presenting at professional conferences. Our faculty members design immersive study abroad classes in England, such as Experiencing London Theatre and Literary Landscapes: Gothic Cities. These illustrate the high-impact practices we do. We continue the “What Can You Do With a Degree in ___?” with dance. We invite you to follow us on Instagram.

College of Arts and Sciences Students Go Out of the Classroom and Into the World

Students in theater, political science, computer science and biochemistry expanded their horizons by working in a Broadway theater or a public relations defense firm, competing in a NASA competition, or collaborating on research at a university in Poland.

Faculty members from the theater and English departments will each lead a trip to the United Kingdom: one for English literature in York and the other for theater in London.

Something to Talk About: Students Present on History and Literature to Acclaim at Prestigious Language Conference

Meet two students who dove into research and successfully presented on their topics: Chinese “comfort women” of World War II and the depiction of the melancholy Portuguese saudade in Spanish literature.

What Can You Do With a Degree in Dance? These Alumni Showcase the Possibilities.

Many dance majors go on to perform, but others have used their Bachelor of Fine Arts degrees to create their own companies or schools or go into health professions such as physical therapy.

It is with delight that we welcome Eugenia Villa-Cuesta, PhD, to the dean's office, where she will assume the role of associate dean for faculty affairs and academic advancement. Dr. Villa-Cuesta, who joined Adelphi in 2012, is a member of the biology department. Her work on mitochondrial metabolism has been published in top-tier academic journals across the world. She joins the dean's office with a wealth of experience about collaborative pedagogy, and we look forward to the ways in which she will help the College advance its mission of generating new knowledge and build the liberal arts education that is the cornerstone of the Adelphi experience.
