Dear Friend,
As someone who has always called Long Island home, I was excited to explore college options that were close by. Through the acceptance process, I attended multiple open houses and Accepted Student Days. Each time I visited Adelphi, the Department of Mathematics and
Computer Science made me feel welcome and supported. I knew right away that Adelphi was the place for me. The professors are incredibly caring, and their support made all the difference in my education.
During my time at Adelphi, I was deeply involved in the campus community. I was a proud member of the mathematics honor society, the computer science honor society and the Math Club. I also worked as a tutor for the department and at the Learning and Writing Center, which became one of the most rewarding experiences of my student life. I made lifelong friends and cherished memories through these activities.
Adelphi also opened the door to other incredible opportunities. After completing two internships and working part time while finishing my master’s degree at Adelphi, I was fortunate to land a full-time position as a senior applications analyst at Brookhaven National Laboratory. In my role, I develop and upgrade applications used in the main control room, helping to operate the accelerator complex, including the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider, which is soon to be upgraded to the Electron Ion Collider. These machines are crucial in advancing our understanding of fundamental physics. I’m also proud to serve as the vice president of Brookhaven Women in Science, where I follow my passion for growing the number of women in STEM fields.
I was so
excited to be notified that I am a member of the Class of 2024 10 Under 10 Young Alumni Recognition program! Adelphi has had such a profound impact on my life, providing me with an education that exceeded my expectations. It’s a great feeling to know I’m making my alma mater proud. I’m thrilled to introduce you to the rest of the Class of 2024 10 Under 10 honorees—you can learn more about them below.
Sincerely, Jennefer Maldonado ’20, MS ’22
