AU Adelphi Alumni

March 2025

Dear Adelphi Community,

Last month, my Every Voice message reaffirmed Adelphi University’s commitment to values and goals that matter deeply to our community. In light of recent executive orders and an unfolding national dialogue, I understand that our students, faculty and staff may have questions.

Adelphi remains unwavering in its commitment to fostering a safe, inclusive and affirming environment for all members of our community. While we must comply with federal policy to protect the University’s mission and long-term stability, we will continue to provide a welcoming and supportive place to live, learn and work.

One consideration at a time, we will thoughtfully assess how to navigate the changing national and political landscape and sentiments regarding diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging. As an example, we have decided to pause our plans to conduct a Diversity Campus Climate Survey this spring. Mindful of timing and context, we will determine the most appropriate time to proceed with our plans and use this opportunity to reassess the survey’s content.

Adelphi’s core values and strategic goals lead the way in every step we take. Our current strategic plan, Momentum 2, centers on our mission, our people and our resources—helping us remain nimble and forward-thinking, while staying true to who we are.

Among our six core values, respect for the individual is foundational. It underpins our ongoing commitment to fostering an environment where every member of our community feels seen, valued and empowered to thrive.

As always, we are committed to working collaboratively with our community to navigate change. Thank you for your engagement and dedication to creating a community of compassion, respect and belonging at Adelphi; we will continue offering spaces for thoughtful dialogue. If you would like to connect directly, please email audiversity@adelphi.edu to share your thoughts or request a meeting.

With gratitude,

R. Sentwali Bakari, PhD
Vice President, Student Affairs and Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging
