The College of Arts and Sciences Newsletter
Spring 2023
Dear Friends,

We hope the Year of the Rabbit brings you much vigor and success. In this issue of ASCEND, we invite you to peruse several noteworthy developments happening in the College of Arts and Sciences. Jacqueline Olvera, PhD, associate professor of sociology, has spearheaded the inspiring reimagination of what is now the Latin American and Latinx Studies program. A photo retrospective reviews theater Professor Nicholas Petron’s illustrious career at Adelphi that spans five decades. Our student population is becoming increasingly global; there is now a contingent of students from Mongolia, an area that has changed rapidly, politically and economically, in the last three decades. In this issue, we inaugurate a series called “What Can You Do With a Degree in ____?” We begin with theater and will continue with physics in the fall. This issue rounds out with the exciting changes in our General Education program, such as the cohort design for First-Year Seminars.

We hope you enjoy reading ASCEND.
