This spring, we said goodbye to Dean Andy Atzert, EdD—Andy to many of you—who retired after five years of dedicated leadership at the College of Professional and Continuing Studies (CPCS). Andy’s tenure was instrumental in establishing CPCS as a leading academic unit at Adelphi, committed to delivering high-quality programs for adult and nontraditional students. Thanks to his efforts, CPCS stands stronger today. I am honored to carry forward his legacy, working alongside an exceptional team that will continue to elevate CPCS as a center of excellence—prioritizing access, equity and career readiness—and empowering adult and nontraditional students to begin or resume their educational journeys toward degree completion.
This semester has seen new academic leaders and exciting milestones. We welcomed Terry Cooper, DHSc, our new academic director and clinical assistant professor of emergency management, who has already created fresh opportunities for our students, like the new 4+1 Emergency Services Administration BS-Emergency Management MS program. Alan Cooper, PhD '95, clinical associate professor in Adelphi's Robert B. Willumstad School of Business, has also joined CPCS as the new academic director for our Online BS in Healthcare Administration program, bringing his extensive experience in healthcare management to the pivotal role of guiding and developing the next generation of healthcare administration professionals.
As we step into this next phase, we remain committed to our mission of supporting adult and nontraditional learners. Our focus continues to be on expanding noncredit offerings to support post-traditional students seeking short-term certificates in high-demand fields such as allied health and the growing technology sector. Strengthening community and organizational partnerships in the corporate, nonprofit and public sectors remains central to our work, with the goal of creating opportunities that serve learners at all stages and circumstances of life.
Finally, I am thrilled to celebrate the achievements of our graduating Class of 2025. Among them are four Finish Line students, one of whom you’ll meet below, as well as six veterans and one Caring for Caregivers scholarship recipient—each exemplifying the resilience and dedication of adult learners, stopped-out students, military-affiliated students, and student parents and caregivers. We couldn’t be prouder of our graduates and applaud their tremendous accomplishments!
