Adelphi Alumni
February 2024
Dear Adelphi Alumni,

I'm excited to share with you the impact of my Adelphi experience, which shaped my identity and provided me with a sense of belonging. After being accepted to Adelphi, my connection was magnified when I found out my grandmother, who passed my sophomore year of high school, was a proud Adelphi alumna. Guided by her spirit, I arrived on campus in 2003.

Like many of you, college was my avenue to self-discovery. Adelphi wasn't just a stepping stone in my professional journey; it became the sanctuary of my independence and freedom. My experience was enriched by relationships forged in the UC, nights at the Ratt and shopping at Post. Having peers who looked and thought like me who also came from various backgrounds, helped me feel seen, understood and capable. These connections nurtured my growth, providing a sense of belonging crucial to my academic success.

More than two decades later, my college friends have become family, as we support each other through life's challenges and triumphs. As I've navigated different cities and careers, the need for a supportive community led me to actively engage with the Multicultural Alumni Chapter (MCC).

I hope you’ll take advantage of our strong alumni network and attend special events on campus, like the Black History Month programming going on now and Panther pride events like Spirit Weekend this fall, as we continue to unite as alumni!

Thank you,

Lisa deCastillo ’07, MSW ’09
