Two Adelphi Alumnae Named Emerging Leaders on Long Island

Congratulations to Sloane Somerstein ’20, MA ’22 and Jennifer Blandeburgo ’17—both Emerging Leaders Under 30, according to Long Island Business News.

Somerstein is Senior Coordinator for Student and Community Engagement at Adelphi. Blandeburgo is Vice President of Talent and Engagement at Long Island Cares, Inc.

Adelphi Grad Leads OKC Through Championship Season

Congratulations to David Akinyooye ’11, assistant coach for the newly crowned NBA Champion team, the Oklahoma City Thunder! Akinyooye has been with the organization since 2015, helping to shape one of the league’s most dynamic teams. He has also served as head coach for the Thunder’s Summer League squad.

After playing basketball at Adelphi from 2007 to 2011, with notable career bests, Akinyooye began his NBA coaching journey with the New York Knicks in 2012. 

Alumnus Honored by Mets as Small Business Veteran of the Game

Scott Gibney ’82, a 30-year U.S. Navy veteran and co-founder of Gibney Solutions LLC (College & Career), was recently recognized by the New York Mets as Small Business Veteran of the Game at Citi Field. 

Gibney and his wife Susan founded a company that helps students and families navigate the college admissions process and career planning.
