23rd Annual Adelphi Athletics Black History Month Celebration

Two distinguished alumni will share their inspiring journeys and reflections on the importance of Black history. We'll hear from William Ampofo ’96, senior vice president at Boeing, and Issa Tall ’13, general manager of Major League Soccer’s Columbus Crew.

Adelphi University remembers four outstanding men’s basketball alumni who recently passed away. From left to right, above, they are:
Hall of Famer Chris Bernard '99, from Valley Stream, New York, was a standout basketball player from 1996 to 1999. His achievements included numerous All-Conference honors and being named All-Met Player of the Year in his senior season.
Samuel Jenkins '07, a Brooklyn, New York, native, was a four-year letter winner with the Panthers, from 2003 to 2007. During his basketball career, he contributed more than 600 points and 250 rebounds to the team.
Hall of Famer Stephen Mallis '65 joined Adelphi as a sophomore and helped lead the Panthers to the NCAA College Division basketball tournament in 1963 and 1964. He scored a record-setting 1,324 points in his three years at Adelphi, was a three-time all-conference selection and an All-Met Team choice twice.
Sherman Whittenburg, Jr '03 from Jamaica, Queens, New York who transferred to Adelphi from Marist College in 2001. In four of his 28 games he recorded double figures, with a career-best 19 points against Molloy. |
