The Institute for Longevity and Lifelong Well-Being
The 21st century is being reshaped by longevity. By 2050, more than two billion people will be 60-plus years of age—a 42 percent increase—while birth rates have plummeted from 7 to 2.5 children per woman since 1972. Combined with declining health, these trends mean people will need to contribute to their families, communities and societies longer than ever. By 2050, those 50-plus are predicted to be the largest segment of the U.S. workforce.
The Adelphi Institute for Longevity and Lifelong Well-Being will serve as a hub to advance research, advocacy, education, collaboration and certification in the field of human longevity. Housed within the Ruth S. Ammon College of Education and Health Sciences, the institute will leverage interdisciplinary expertise across Adelphi University and strategic external partnerships to design programs that address the complex challenges and opportunities posed by the contemporary world’s extended lifespans and shifting demographics.
The Institute for Longevity and Lifelong Well-Being will hold its inaugural event on June 14 at 10:00 a.m. This online workshop will empower participants—students, educators, health professionals and longevity advocates—to become proactive agents of change in a world where longevity is both a personal and societal imperative.
