Greetings From the Dean:
I would like to extend a warm welcome from the College of Nursing of Public Health (CNPH). As I complete my second year as dean of the CNPH, I’m delighted to share so many of our wonderful accomplishments. This year, our faculty and students continued to amaze us with their dedication to teaching, learning and scholarship and the promotion of health and wellness to all populations. Our programs continued to grow and flourish and our rankings saw significant gains. We continue to focus on student success and our students have received numerous awards and scholarships. We are also pleased to share our NCLEX scores with fourth-quarter 2023 results of 96 percent and first-quarter 2024 results of 93 percent—and that our pass rates were 94 percent for the Psychiatric-Mental Health Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam, taken by students who graduated in December 2022, and 96 percent for the Adult-Gerontology Primary Care Nurse Practitioner Certification Exam, taken by students who graduated in May 2023.
We are also thrilled to share that our master’s degree in healthcare informatics received accreditation by the Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM). All of our academic programs are now accredited, signifying our academic excellence. Also, many of our esteemed faculty have received grants and have presented at local, national and international conferences.
I had another incredible visit to the Grameen Caledonian College of Nursing in Bangladesh with Ani Jacob, DNP, clinical associate professor, and Charles Cal ’95, MS ’01, MBA ’03, clinical assistant professor, that was generously supported by our ambassador, author and philanthropist Susan Gibson.
I hope you enjoy our newsletter—and we would love for you to visit our beautiful campus or attend a future event.

News Briefs
MS in Healthcare Informatics Gains Prestigious CAHIIM Accreditation The Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM) has accredited the CNPH MS in Healthcare Informatics program. Dean Deborah Hunt, PhD ’12, said this CNPH program is among just 28 in the United States so recognized—and the first in New York state. She praised Associate Professor A. Hasan Sapci, MD, the program’s director, for his “steadfast leadership” in gaining this “prestigious” accreditation. Dr. Pajarillo: Two More Schools Interested in Onboarding Program Two additional schools are seriously considering the Equitable, Targeted and Structured (ETS) Onboarding program, beyond the original four (Bradley University, Texas Wesleyan University, the University of Toledo and the University of Mississippi Medical Center), said Professor Edmund J.Y. Pajarillo, PhD. All told, 144 students have completed this program from Fall 2022 through Spring 2024, he added. CNPH Is Strengthening Faculty Research This year, CNPH plans to further bolster its faculty research commitment as a way to increase its chances for re-designation as a National League for Nursing (NLN) Center of Excellence. The particular focus will be on nursing education science research, since that’s the area in which CNPH is recognized by the NLN, said Maryann Forbes, PhD ’99, CNPH associate dean for academic affairs. The College has been recognized by NLN as a Center of Excellence since 2014 and was, in 2019, the only U.S. institution cited for Advancing the Science of Nursing Education. Dr. Forbes, chair of the 2024 NLN-Center of Excellence Steering Committee, wrote and submitted the latest application materials in late April. CNPH continues to demonstrate “a sustained commitment to and excitement for evidence-based teaching … [and] a passion for knowledge generation in nursing education science,” Dr. Forbes said. “We are committed to developing and disseminating pedagogical research and using evidence-based findings to impact student outcomes.” CNPH Has Received Two Awards From NACLI In April, the Nurses Association of the Counties of Long Island (NACLI) presented Dean Deborah Hunt, PhD ’12, with its Community Service Award and Clinical Associate Professor Deborah Ambrosio-Mawhirter ’81, MS ’95, EdD, with NACLI’s Award for Excellence in Nursing Practice.
