Hello Adelphi Alumni,
I had the honor of attending the 127th Commencement ceremony on May 23. It blew me away to see the smiling faces of our 2023 graduates and their families. This class had only just started their Adelphi journeys when COVID-19 turned the world upside down. They’ve overcome some challenges! I know they will reflect on the lessons we learned and that they can look to their Adelphi family and 119,000 fellow alumni to be a great support in their futures.
Their ceremony included a keynote from someone who also knows how to overcome a challenge. Hamdi Ulukaya, founder and CEO of Chobani, called Adelphi University “my Ellis Island” because he came straight to Garden City 29 years ago after fleeing Turkey in search of a better life. This week, we recognized Ulukaya with an honorary doctorate because of his faith in Adelphi, outstanding success and remarkable humanitarianism.
Newly dubbed Dr. Ulukaya reminded our Class of 2023 that changes and curveballs can be conquered, especially with an Adelphi experience to prepare you for them. And he pointed out that you can always come back home to Adelphi—even 29 years later.
I hope to see you back home soon too!
