Spring 2026 |

Dear School of Social Work Community,
Greetings and pleasant wishes for a good spring season.
I enjoy meeting alumni and learning of their work and their passion during events throughout the year, such as Spirit Weekend, the Women’s Leadership Conference and A Spotlight on Careers in Social Work. In this eNewsletter, you will read about the innovative and exciting ways that three alumni are applying their social work knowledge and skills to developing nonprofits. I’m sure these stories will connect with the work that many of you are involved with.
This year, the School of Social Work has experienced a major transition within the ranks of our faculty with the retirement of Professor Richard Belson, DSW ’77. Dr. Belson has been a significant contributor to the School’s practice curriculum for 47 years. We wish him success in retirement.
I am also pleased to share that the BSW and MSW programs have been reaccredited by the Council on Social Work Education. The School of Social Work and its alumni continue to be change agents for individuals, families and communities. |

We’re spotlighting School of Social Work alumni who have taken their expertise beyond traditional settings by launching their own nonprofits—championing music as a tool for better healthcare, advocating for breast cancer awareness and amplifying the voices of those in the foster care system. Their pioneering spirits are proof that a social work degree can be a launchpad for bold, independent impact. |

What Is Environmental Justice? |
|
Adelphi University's Environmental Justice in Social Work Advanced Certificate, which can be earned within our MSW program, is grounded in the understanding that environmental crises—from pollution to climate change—are deeply tied to structural inequality and oppression.
This path equips social workers with the knowledge and skills to address environmental justice in their practice. A dedicated field placement ensures real-world experience in settings that confront our community’s most pressing environmental and social challenges. |
